Mariners head to break with first sweep of season in
<html>There have been so many sweep opportunities the Mariners let slide in the clinching game this year, a huge reason they have yet to win even four games in a row. But not today, as the Mariners held on for a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels and head to the all-star break nine games under .500. They ve hovered around that level for two months now and needed this improbable sweep to at least generate some momentum. There is no denying the team s 8-5 record against the Rangers, Reds, Red Sox and now, the Angels, the past two weeks was impressive. So are the nearly six runs per game scored by the Mariners and the 48 runs in seven games this homestand. But they waited until July to do it. Waited until they fell 12 games under .500 before finally sweeping a series. The Mariners needed something big to happen this weekend if they wanted any realistic hope of even a .500 season. Well, they just got it. And they ll need similar strong results once the break ends if they are to make a dent in those remaining nine games. But certainly, this rates as a start. Its a big win for us, especially going to the break, Mariners manager Eric Wedge said. Its something we havent done this year. Its hard to win a series,[1], hard to sweep. And when you do that, you make up some ground. And as I mentioned, theres a lot to make up. A lot of good things have happened here, Wedge said. Not just in the last three days, but the last two or three weeks. And you can see where these guys are headed. The Mariners hit another home run today and have gone deep in a franchise record 22 consecutive games. Michael Saunders hit the big blow today, a two-run homer in the second off Joe Blanton. Saunders is now 10-for-28 (.357) the past week and boy, does this team ever need him to get his game back to where ir s supposed to be. Were playing good baseball right now, Saunders said. One-through-nine in the batting order. Starting pitching and bullpen. We lost a tough series to Boston but we played good baseball. And then Anaheim came in here and we didnt let that previous series get us down. That s true. The last two times the Mariners played the Angels, they suffered devastating letdowns. There was that series in May when they were blown out two games to extend their losing streak to an eventual eight. Then,Renton lawmaker new Inslee education policy adviser, last month, when they dropped three of four in Anaheim,Suns 32 S.O Neal Purple Jerseys, including a finale in which they blew an 8-1 lead. That didn t happen this time. The Mariners put it away when they had a chance. Weve been playing well as of late,[http://www.jerseys-ns.net/-15592/ ] said Justin Smoak, hitting .386 this month. We played well against Boston that last series,Canada 6 Weber Red Jerseys, just werent able to get some Ws there. But weve been swinging the bats and pitching well and youve seeing that on the field. Now, we ll see whether they can sustain those results after the break. If they can,Saini to serve 15 years to life, folks will start viewing them a whole lot differently. We ll have to see.</html>

Franklin returns to Mariner lineup and other Sunday notes 0
<html>After a day off (except to pinch-hit) with a sore knee from a foul ball, Nick Franklin returns to the Mariners lineup. Eric Wedge said he walked in better and still felt better after treatment and doing some running. Kendrys Morales, who is 1-for-15 since his two-homer,[3], six-RBI game in Texas on the first game of the road trip,? is on the bench, with Justin Smoak getting the start at first. Wedge hopes Raul Ibanez is rejuvenated after getting a full day off yesterday the first time he s missed a game since May 29, starting them all since then.
Which is why we needed to give him a day yesterday,[4], Wedge said. Unless the game was on the line, he wasn’t going to play. It will go a long way for him. Just like Morales a day for him today will go a long way, too.
As for Michael Morse, on the DL with a quad injury, Wedge said he s a bit sore from running. The plan is to give him a couple days off,State office can investigate suspiciously high tow, then send him mid-week to Tacoma on a rehab assignment. Wedge said he was disappointed that neither Oliver Perez or Ibanez were included on the final vote for the All-Star team.
Of course, I’m a little biased, but I’d have liked to have seen them both on there, he said. I think they’re both great stories,Flames Blank Red Jerseys, and not only that,Nike Chiefs 82 Bowe White Elite Jersey, they’re both producers on the field. Oliver’s in his second career, and I think he has been as good as any left-hander in the league in that role. With what Raul’s done to be in such great shape and work so hard to be who he is, and have that translate on the field this year at his age, it’s a tremendous accomplishment.</html>

Female farm workers and a modern harvest of shame
<html>More than a half century ago,Lightning 91 Steven Stamkos Black Jerseys,Maddox awarded after board violates Sunshine Laws, television viewers were transfixed by the reporting of Edward R. One of the lines that echoed out of “Harvest of Shame,” was We used to own our slaves; now we just rent them. The exploitation of those whose meager circumstances make them vulnerable to abuse was revisited by a PBS “Frontline” documentary, “Rape in the Fields.” Among the cases of sexual harassment featured in the news show involved Evans Fruit Co.,Xenia Christian Center celebrates freedom with event, based northwest of Yakima. The documentary looked at issues about sexual abuse in agriculture from California to Iowa. This spring, a jury in federal court in Yakima rejected all the sexual harassment claims against Evans Fruit Co. The documentary focused on one infamous Evans’ supervisor in particular. As the documentary points out, few of the cases end up in court, and virtually none of the cases across the country have led to criminal charges. The documentary is a testimony to the courage of the women who have come forward. The “Frontline” documentary was disturbing because of the human trauma involved, and the personal recognition I had not heard a word about this topic before. 7/5/2013 8:15:00 AMNot filling each waking moment "enriching' the kids? Relax, it's OK
By Jeff EdelsteinColumnistSee, the way it used to be, didn t matter much what you did with your kids. Keep em upright and don t let them swallow nickels, and you were GTG. Good to go.From my life files: I grew up comfortably upper middle class, but outside of a few months of Little League baseball, I was on my own as far as fun went. My parents weren t dragging me left, right and center. In fact,City gives property owners time to repair sewage leaks Hawaii News, Honolulu, Ho, my strongest memory revolves around Sunday mornings, being allowed to sit in the front seat for the drive over to Pete s Stationary Store where my dad would buy the Sunday paper. As far as the rest of the big jumble of memories of my parents? Pretty straightforward: They were around. But you know what wasn t around? The feeling of having to fill each and every waking moment of your child s life with enriching activities. For real, and I know current parents are nodding their heads: If you don t take your six-month old to the Six Month Old Chinese Language/Music with Apple Baked Goodness and No Peanuts Were Used In Making This Announcement class you are a bad, bad, terrible, horrible parent who should be sent to a remedial parents class taught by the overly fertile insane mother on 19 Kids and Counting. Can t just let the kids veg in front the TV for fear you ll be found out by the local Mom s Club, who will then tell the non-local mom s clubs about your aberrant behavior, and next thing you know, while their little Jocelyn learned to crochet in the original French style, your kid is still eating yarn and you re shunned from the parents gabfest at the park.If I m sounding a little crazed, I ll tell you why: It s because I tried to do the right thing, tried to coddle my little darlings and all it got me was a stern talking-to from the missus after I damn near popped a gasket explaining what, exactly, happened. And what happened? Ugh. I was playing Mr. Mom during a time I don t usually play Mr. Mom, my daughter pitched a fit at a music class, my son pitched a fit during a healthy attempt at lunch, and then I pitched a fit when I dropped them off with my wife. Details? Would fill a book. But they don t really matter. It was just one disaster after another. But the point is this: If I had gone with my gut instinct - namely,Yankees 31 Vazquez white Jerseys, turn on Nick Jr. or Sprout and let them watch a little TV and play while I sat on the couch and surfed the web - everyone wouldn t been perfectly happy. But I couldn t do that. I felt compelled to enrich the little buggers, if for no other reason I knew other parents were out there enriching their little buggers, even though I knew deep down the only reason they re running around and enriching is because they think everyone else is willingly and happily running around and enriching, when in fact the only reason this frenzied enriching is going on is because we re all fearful we, as parents, will be ostracized for not trying super-duper hard to enrich our children. Two things: 1) I ve come to hate the word enrich and 2) see what s going on up there? It s a vicious circle. A vicious enrichment circle. We all think we re lousy parents if we re not doing every last activity with our kids, and all these activities drive us and our kids nutso.Again, think back to your childhood: It was not like this, and we turned out just fine. In fact, if you really think about your youth, it s not the things your parents did with you that stick out; it s almost the opposite. Just being there, just being around - or,State, tribal officials to review Lake Washington sockeye ru, conversely, not being around - are the things that stand out.And with that 20/20 hindsight, my kids and I would ve had a much happier and less hectic time the other day if we just hung out with each other, watched some TV, played some Darth Vader and stuffed animals,[6], and forgot about what every other overextended parent and child was up to.Or maybe I m just a lousy parent. Who knows. All I know is I can t crochet, and I don t care.Jeff Edelstein is a columnist for The Trentonian. 7/4/2013 12:40:00 AMKister masterful for AIA in win over DaytonBy JOHN BOMBATCHContributing Writer
XENIA The Californian from The Master s College was quite masterful.
Xenia Scouts pitcher Tommy Kister limited the Dayton Docs to a pair of hits for a 3-0 win, Wednesday night at Grady s Field on the Athletes In Action sports complex.
Scouts coach Jeff James says Kister,First impressions of Windows 8.1- Starting back to the futur, a solid righthander who plays college ball for The Master s College in Santa Clarita, Calif.,State office can investigate suspiciously high tow fees Hawa, has been a solid part Xenia s pitching rotation this season.
He s been great all season for us, James said. He came out of college as more of a closer, so it s taken us a little time to get him to extend his pitch count and become a starter for us. But he has adjusted fast, and he s been throwing really great for us ever since.
Kister had a perfect game going through the first 4 2/3 innings of work, but by then the Scouts (9-13) had already scored twice.
I knew that they would swing at a lot of first pitches, and so I just went out there and attacked the strike zone early, Kister said. I kept my pitch count low and my defense did a great job behind me.
One example of the great defense that was played behind him came in the fifth inning. Dayton s Brady Stewart had bounced a short dribbler down the third-base line that appeared to be a sure hit. But Scouts third baseman Zachary Gilcrease charged in and timed the bounce to where he could grab the ball quickly with his throwing hand, and then zing a bullet throw to first baseman Lincoln Reid for the out.
It s a lot easier to throw strikes when you know you have guys playing their hearts out on defense like Zach did on that play, Kister said. He made a great play.
Docs skipper Chip Schaffner went over and shook Kister s hand after the game.
He definitely was on! Schaffner said. First of all, the pitcher s job is to throw strikes and that s what he did. Second job is to keep us off balance and change speeds,Nike Packers 50 HAWK White Elite Jerseys, and he definitely did that. I don t know if that was his best outing ever, but it s one of the best performances I ve seen out of a pitcher - especially in this Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League - all season long. You ve gotta tip your cap to a guy when he turns in an outing like that.
Xenia scored twice in the third inning. First Evan Robinson got on base with a bunt single, then Cory Reid got on base with a walk. After Colby Johnson advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt, Lucas Salerno and Joey Miller drove them in on back-to-back singles.
Salerno s been coming through for us in the clutch like that, whenever he has the chance to bring in some runs. And Miller s starting to come around and find more ways to advance the runners. It s good to see him having success on the things he s been working on, James said.
Salerno smacked his third hit of the game in the seventh inning to score Cory Reid from third with Xenia s third run of the game.
In all, Xenia racked up nine hits and left nine runners on base.
The hitters have been working hard on adjusting to the wooden bats,Lake Washington sockeye count still climbing, but no movemen, and they ve made the adjustments they had to make, James said. Now it s starting to show on the scoreboard. We can win with pitching and defense,2012 NIKE Jets 24 REVIS green Game Jerseys, but its nice to see us create more opportunities to score offensively as well.
Dayton falls to 11-10 with the loss.
Xenia returns to action this afternoon for a 1 p.m. home contest against the first-place Southern Ohio Copperheads.</body></html>

Also, I asked the driver if he had any insurance to tow my truck and he said he didn rsquo;t have that information and didn rsquo;t have to show me anything, that I should check with his office. Poll- Should Washington lawmakers fine themselves for workin
<html>Senate Majority Coalition Caucus Leader Rodney Tom wants to motivate lawmakers to get their work done on time or face fines. Sounds like a gimmick. A bad one that doesn t reflect much pride in the final budget passed by lawmakers earlier this month. Majority Coalition Caucus Leader Rodney Tom,Youth Nike Steelers 43 Polamalu White Jerseys, D-Medina,NBA Caps-783, meets with student lobbyists from the University of Washington to discuss higher education. (KEN LAMBERT/THE SEATTLE TIMES) The Washington Legislature certainly tested our patience when they failed to reach a budget deal by the end of the regular session. That they teetered on the edge of a government shutdown is unfortunate. But there s a bottom line: The final bill lawmakers passed turned out to be better than the alternatives considered in earlier weeks. (Why? Read more analysis in this commending lawmakers for finding the political center in the final bill.) Here s an excerpt from Seattle Times reporter Andrew Garber s : Tom created a buzz after broaching the idea of a $250-a-day fine for each day lawmakers go past the time allotted in the regular session. We need a forcing mechanism, and right now, there really is not one,John Mayall starts Jazz Alley run in fine form, Tom said Tuesday. I think its crazy that it comes down to notices to state workers that were going to shut down state government as the only forcing mechanism that gets us out of town. House Appropriations Chairman Ross Hunter,The fading of a cultural touchstone- the Oval Office address, D-Medina, disagreed with Toms idea. I just dont think it works, Hunter said. Is Tom trying to apologize in some way for taking too long to adjourn sine die? They definitely took way too long to compromise,Sounders FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps, preview and prediction, but I don t buy the idea that lawmakers will ever penalize themselves for taking a few extra weeks to understand a complex state budget that affects millions of Washingtonians over two years. One person I talked to said the outcome of this year s legislative session reminded him of a basketball game that goes into double overtime. A win is a win, no matter what it took to get there. All sides fought hard. The final operating budget was worth the wait. Democrats didn t get all the revenue they wanted and social issues (such as the Reproductive Parity and DREAM acts) will have to wait another year for passage. Republicans and members of the Majority Coalition Caucus didn t get workers compensation reform or principal empowerment reform. None of those issues took precedent over education funding, which fared better this year compared with previous sessions. So if you ask me, Tom s idea of punishing lawmakers for moving too deliberately is unnecessary. What do you think? Take our poll.</html>
